College Accounts After Graduation: What to Expect and How to Prepare

Congratulations on graduating or transferring from Minneapolis College! As you move on to new endeavors, it is important to understand that your college accounts will no longer be accessible. This article will provide you with information on what accounts you will lose access to and how to prepare for this change.

Accounts You Will Lose Access To

When you graduate or transfer, you will lose access to the following accounts:

  • Office365: This includes your school-sponsored email account (StarID@go.minnstate.edu), as well as access to OneDrive, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams through your school account.

  • School Zoom account: You will no longer have access to your school's Zoom account.

  • Kaltura MediaSpace: Any videos you have saved to your Kaltura MediaSpace account will no longer be accessible.

What to Expect

If you are transferring to a college within the Minnesota State system, you will still have access to your accounts. However, if you are transferring to a college outside of Minnesota State or have graduated, your accounts will be deactivated one year after your last day of classes at Minneapolis College.

Preparing to Lose Access to Your College Accounts

Before you lose access to your school accounts, it is important to be proactive in saving files or information so that you can access it later. Here are some tips to help you prepare:

1. Saving Materials from Microsoft OneDrive

You can download the content from your Microsoft OneDrive account and either save it to your computer or re-upload it to a different cloud storage location. To do this:

2. Saving or Forward Emails from your School Account

To save any important emails, either forward them to a personal email account or download them to your computer. To download emails:

  • Open the desired email.

  • Click on the three dots on the email.

  • Select Download to have the message downloaded to your computer.

3. Saving Information from Teams

Check your Teams chats and any teams that you might be a part of. The process of downloading from Teams is the same as downloading from OneDrive. The best way to save chats from Teams is to copy/paste them into another document.

4. Saving Videos from Kaltura MediaSpace

If you are the owner of any videos on Kaltura MediaSpace, you can download them and save them to your device. To do this:

  • Open the video you’d like to download.

  • Select Download from the menu at the bottom of the screen.

  • Select the version of the video you’d like to download to your device.

5. Saving any Zoom Data

Login to your school Zoom account and make note of any data you might want to save, such as poll data, meeting recordings, chats, contacts, and any other information. Be aware that you will no longer have access to your school's Zoom account once your college accounts are deactivated.

By following these steps, you can ensure that you will not lose any important files or information when you lose access to your college accounts. Good luck with your future endeavors!
